Prof. Tissa Vitharana, Member of Parliament and Leader of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP), has stated that it is the responsibility of the coalition leaders to point out the faults of the government and correct them.
He further added that steps are being taken to ensure the confidence of the people in the government.
He made the remarks when asked about the 2022 budget tabled in Parliament.
He continued,
The budget for 2022 is not set to benefit people who have been economically affected by factors including the rising cost of living due to the Corona impact.
We put forward the idea on behalf of the party to provide relief to the affected people.
Reports that the LSSP has decided to leave the government are false.
Coalition partner party members have a responsibility to point out the government’s faults and to correct the government.
The contents of the 2022 budget have caused various controversies. The middle class is facing major economic hardships due to the impact of the corona and the rising cost of living.
The budget is not designed to benefit the affected people.
On behalf of the LSSP, we have come up with the idea of providing relief to the economically disadvantaged people through the budget. It is questionable how heads of state pay attention to our ideas.
We continue to urge the government to focus on providing relief at the ministry level to the economically affected people.
