We are constantly waiting for someone to fix us, for someone to come from outside and solve our problems, to think about us and our future. Our future is in our hands and it depends entirely on us. We complain about the politicians and the political class, and they depend on the people themselves. We do not understand this as a society – someone always blames us for something. This is what one of the most read contemporary authors, Georgi Burdarov, said to Mariyan Stankov – Mont Dieu on Nova TV.
“What has been taken away from this earth here is peace. It has been taken away forever. Such is our folk psychology. Peace is something we will never achieve. It is like karma to us, perhaps. The paradox of our reality is that we have so much information about the world, we don’t know ourselves, but we set limits ourselves. Humanity is extremely short-sighted. We have other phenomena – to grumble and complain , and quietly. If we have to express our opinion, it happens very rarely – we are a patient people. Even if he does not like the status quo, I have come to the conclusion that, unfortunately, people are not willing to be free. The mass wants to be told what to do, how to live, and if it can get its daily ration, it doesn’t want to think about anything else. We celebrate Independence and The union without really realizing what they gave us,” he believes.
“Bulgaria may eventually lose its independence or become a great country again. These are processes that should not frighten us, this is the natural course of things,” noted Burdarov.
According to him, our biggest sin as Bulgarians is the lack of dignity when we place ourselves in the world. “We are very strong in sitting at the table to fight with national successes in the past. There are so many things we have achieved in modern history, such as the saving of Bulgarian Jews – 50,000 human lives – in the Second World War. We close ourselves off too much and only look back, not appreciating our rightful place in the world right now. In this way, we are betraying Bulgaria in some form,” the writer added.
