We call on the French government to listen to the legitimate demands of people in the colonies and to implement them.

As reported by Day.Az, this was stated by the executive director of the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) Abbas Abbasov, commenting on the preliminary report of the French Senate investigation commission entitled “Fighting Malign Foreign Influence: Mobilizing the Entire Nation in the Face of a New Cold War.”

“We regret to note that the allegations contained in the report regarding Azerbaijan, as well as the Baku Initiative Group, are biased, partial and unfounded. The reference to Azerbaijan being a “new rival state threatening from all directions” serves to present our country’s actions in the name of international peace and stability in a completely wrong context and to deliberately mislead the French public by presenting Azerbaijan as an enemy, as well as to deliberately denigrate the great work done by the Baku Initiative Group on decolonization in the world,” he said.

A. Abbasov noted that the main mission of the BIG is to convey to the world community the consequences of the policy of colonialism and neocolonialism and to provide support to peoples suffering from colonialism in their just struggle within the framework of international law.

“Despite the fact that a year has passed since the creation of the ICG, the structure has organized more than 10 international conferences at the UN headquarters in New York, Geneva and Vienna, as well as in various countries around the world. At these events, participants presented information exposing the colonial and neocolonial crimes of France, and the corresponding petitions were launched. We declare that the ICG only advocates the fight against colonialism and neocolonialism, and in no way aims to destabilize French society. On the contrary, France, looking for justifications to shift its internal problems onto others, is pursuing a policy aimed at exacerbating international relations and diverting attention from the injustice caused by colonial policy. This policy leads to human rights violations, increased economic inequality and the disappearance of cultures in regions such as New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Corsica. France, ignoring the justified struggle of the peoples in these territories, is trying to hide its colonial past, which means failing to fulfill its international obligations,” he said.

As the executive director of the BIG noted, the assertion that “activities related to the topic of Islamophobia are being carried out against France” is new disinformation aimed against the expression of the independent position of our country and the BIG.

“These statements indicate an intention to marginalize the activities of the IHB in a religious context and “drive it into a corner” by dressing it in traditional accusations related to religion. We declare that there is no place for discrimination on the basis of religion or ethnicity in the activities of the IHB, and on the contrary, the organization supports, under the auspices of international law, the liberation struggle of all colonial peoples, regardless of religion, language, ethnicity, and encourages cooperation in ensuring the freedoms and rights of all peoples. We call on the French government to listen to and fulfill the fair demands of people living in the colonies, as well as to accept and comply with the fair comments of the IHB regarding the colonies,” Abbasov emphasized.
