Baghdad – WAA
The head of the Iraqi Olympic Committee, Aqeel Muftan, confirmed that he assumed this position in order to reform sports in Iraq and not for any other reason.
During the ceremony held by the Iraqi Sports Syndicate – General Headquarters and attended by the (INA) on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the passing of Iraqi football legend Ahmed Radhi, Muftan said: “We came for reform and nothing but reform, as sports, and Iraqi sports in particular, and this huge national wealth, cannot tolerate failures. If I do not succeed, I will leave the field for others to complete and reform.”
He pointed out that “the late legend Ahmed Radhi left a great impact on the souls of Iraqis, athletes and non-athletes, as he made many happy and pleased our people, and his loss is great,” indicating that the deceased is not a sports symbol, but rather a national symbol.
The late Ahmed Radhi is considered one of the most prominent players of the golden age of Iraqi football, as he was famous for scoring the only goal for Iraq against Belgium in the 1986 World Cup finals.
