The election of the executive committee of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association for the period 2022-2024 has been criticized at various times since its inception. In particular, the conflict between Zayed and Nipun over the post of general secretary reached the court. The term of the current committee expired before the matter was resolved. Many people related to the film have raised questions about the visible work of the latest committee. The members of the executive council claimed that they could not work because of Ilyas Kanchan, the president of the organization.
“Nothing can be done without the President’s permission,” actor Simantan Ahmed told RisingBD.

Earlier, the Misha-Zayed Committee used to perform sacrifices for artistes at FDC for the past few years and deliver the meat to the artistes’ homes. The current committee stopped offering sacrifices to FDC. Artists have to face questions about this issue. Referring to that, Shimanda said, ‘Why was the cow not slaughtered in the sacrifice? These kinds of questions have to be faced. We also wanted the cow to be slaughtered. We could not do it because of our president’s objection.’
Explaining the reason for the ambivalence of the organization’s president Ilyas Kanchan about the sacrifice in FDC, Shimandar said, “Our president’s question is, ‘Why should we slaughter cows?’ Who will be on the day of Eid? Everyone has homework on Eid.’ However, we made a plan to hold a meet-and-greet with the artists after Eid. It didn’t happen anymore either. I think, even if it is not necessary to listen to these words. We could not work in many places because of his (Ilyas Kanchan’s) permission.”
The artists look forward to the picnic all year round, thinking border. In his words, ‘artists want something. Like- Eid, Iftar party, picnic etc. Besides, what else to do! They get a lot of joy from this. Artists wait all year for our picnic. Go on a picnic with the family.’
Elections for the 2024-26 term of Shilpi Samiti are scheduled to be held on April 19. It was already known that Ilyas Kanchan will not contest the next election. Elias Kanchan said at the annual banquet of Shilpi Samiti that he is leaving Shilpi Samiti with great sadness.
