resolution of solidarity of KEDDA-Movement for Freedoms, Democratic Rights, Solidarity.for the new trial of fighter Thanasis Agapitou
We are with the Thanassides of our time!
On December 11, Thanasis agapitos is on trial once again in Thessaloniki. He is on trial this time because he had the courage to defend a young man in 2018, when the latter dared to react to the abusive and racist comments of the police officers of the DIAS group who unjustly, as it was proven and judicially, arrested him.
Thanasis Agapitos, educator, trade unionist, social activist, former Regional Councilor of Central Macedonia and member of the Coordinating Committee of KEDDA ”dared” on the day of the youth’s arrest to defend his rights at the police station where he was taken.
His presence ther and his attitude was the cause of the attack he received from a policeman, because – as is well known – the police cannot accept the right of questioning its authority and the possibility for every citizen to judge “its function” without bowing its head to arbitrariness and thuggery.
the lawsuit that was reasonably filed by Thanasis Agapitos for this aggressive behavior of the policeman – of course – was filed! At the same time, even though in the meantime the young man was proven innocent by court (complete and irrevocable decision 5859/19 of the 1st Three-member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki), the police did not forgive Thanasis Agapitos’ stand of solidarity. The specific police officer filed a lawsuit against him for false testimony and false accusation with a first hearing on 11-5-2023. This lawsuit will be heard again on Wednesday, December 11.
Thanasis Agapitos that is he is accused and tried because he did not remain silent in the proven arbitrariness and authoritarian behavior of the police. The goal,of course,is the criminalization of solidarity and the imposition of a regime of fear so that no one dares to oppose and denounce similar incidents of police arbitrariness and thuggery.
This goal is also evident in the written explanations of the police officer, who, while declaring that he “is not at all interested in the political ideas of the citizens nor is he for or against any political ideology or movement at all”, is the one who searched for and presented to the prosecution publications from the internet about the political activity of Thanasis Agapitos, which obviously bothered him a lot.
As K.E.D.D.A. we find that government violence and police repression and arbitrariness are escalating, becoming now a component and permanent feature of the state’s treatment of movements, solidarity actions, struggles, vulnerable and poor popular strata, but also of imposing a regime of widespread terrorism and authoritarianism.
their attempt to shape a society without rights, without freedoms, terrified, submissive and obedient will not achieve its goal.
They will find us against them and on the side of every person who stands up to injustice and authoritarianism by defending the freedoms and rights of the working people and the youth.
We express our solidarity with Thanasis Agapito and demand his final acquittal in the trial on 11/12/2024 to send the message that we do not tolerate, we are not afraid of the violent and provocative behavior of the repression forces.

What are the key initiatives that KEDDA Movement is implementing too support marginalized communities?
Interview Between Time.News Editor and KEDDA Movement Expert
Time.News Editor: Thank you for joining us today. We’re excited to discuss the recent resolution of solidarity issued by the KEDDA Movement for Freedoms and Democratic Rights. Can you start by giving our readers a brief overview of what KEDDA stands for and its main objectives?
Expert: Absolutely! KEDDA, which stands for the Coalition for Economic Development and Democratic Accountability, focuses on advocating for fundamental freedoms and human rights. Our goal is to promote social justice and ensure that all individuals have the rights they deserve, particularly in regions where these rights are under threat. Our recent resolution of solidarity emphasizes our commitment to stand with communities fighting for these democractic rights.
Time.News Editor: That’s an important mission. Can you elaborate on the specific issues that prompted this resolution? What regions or groups are particularly affected?
Expert: Certainly. Our resolution specifically addresses the ongoing struggles faced by marginalized groups in various regions, including political dissidents and ethnic minorities. We have seen alarming trends in repressive actions against activists—particularly in areas where governments are tightening their grip on civil societies. For example, our latest initiatives focus on regions where communities are facing censorship, violence, and unjust imprisonment.
Time.News Editor: It sounds like you’re addressing some urgent matters. How does the KEDDA Movement plan to mobilize support for these communities? Are there specific actions lined up?
Expert: Mobilization is key to our strategy. We are not only aiming to raise awareness but also looking to create tangible change. Our plan includes organizing workshops, public rallies, and collaborative efforts with othre human rights organizations. Additionally, we are working on campaigns to press for accountability from governments and corporations complicit in human rights abuses. The solidarity resolution serves as a rallying cry to unite our global supporters for these causes.
Time.News Editor: Collaboration often leads to more impactful results. How do you see partnerships with other organizations enhancing your efforts?
Expert: Partnerships are crucial! By collaborating with other advocacy groups, we can share resources, exchange strategies, and amplify our voices. Joint efforts help us reach a wider audience and leverage collective power—whether it’s through combined advocacy campaigns, legal support for victims of repression, or educational initiatives that highlight systemic injustices.
Time.news Editor: What role do digital platforms play in your activism, especially in today’s increasingly online-driven world?
Expert: digital platforms have revolutionized activism. They allow us to inform and engage with a global audience more effectively than ever. Social media, for instance, serves as a powerful tool to share real-time updates, mobilize crowds, and build solidarity across borders. Moreover, it can be a haven for free expression, providing a voice to those who might or else be silenced.
Time.News Editor: As we wrap up, what message would you like to convey to our readers who may want to support KEDDA and its mission?
Expert: I encourage everyone to stay informed and engage with the issues at hand. Support can take many forms: whether it’s participating in local initiatives, donating to our campaigns, or amplifying our messages online. Every action counts. Together, we can foster a more just and equitable world. Thank you for bringing attention to these critical issues.
Time.News Editor: Thank you for your insights and for the vital work you do. We look forward to seeing the impact of your upcoming initiatives!
