Barely rested from the birth and then suddenly a neighbor you barely know is at the door for a maternity visit.
Saskia (41), mother of Emma (9) and Lieke (6):
“On the last day of my maternity week, a neighbor suddenly showed up at the door who lives a block away. I knew her vaguely by face. She had seen from the streamers in the window and the sign in the garden that I had given birth, and she had taken that as an invitation.

Unannounced maternity visit
My husband opened the door in astonishment. He didn’t even know her name. I immediately thought: why are you coming by, I never speak to you? I signaled to the maternity nurse that she didn’t have to offer coffee and rusks, because this woman came unannounced. After a while she kindly sent her away.
“I immediately thought: why are you coming by, I never speak to you?”
Afterwards I never spoke to this neighbor again, we only say hello when we meet in the village. But I’m still amazed at the brutality six years later. I myself am always at the back of the line when visiting a maternity leave.”
