Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated, during a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, “that his country, along with Iraq, has concerns regarding developments in Syria, including stability and preserving the territorial integrity of Syria.”

The Iranian president pointed out that “Tehran has common concerns with Iraq regarding developments in Syria, including combating the activity of terrorist groups and the withdrawal of Israeli forces.”

For his part, Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani said that he “held an expanded meeting with the Iranian President, during which they discussed bilateral relations in various fields.”

He added, “Iraq and Iran are keen to build balanced relations with all international parties in a way that achieves everyone’s interests.”

Al-Sudani stressed that “the stability of Syria is a key to the stability of the region,” pointing out that “Baghdad and Tehran are ready to cooperate with all parties to achieve stability in Syria.” He also stressed “respecting the will of the Syrian people and supporting their decision to choose their political system.”

He explained that “Iraq was keen to spread calm and prevent the spread of war in the region,” stressing that it “succeeded in preserving the safety of Iraq and its borders and not sliding into conflicts that would increase tension in the region.”

Al-Sudani met with Pezeshkian in the capital, Tehran, where he arrived on an official visit this morning, to hold “talks with senior officials in the country and discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.”
