New Delhi: After taking charge as the 26th Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi on Tuesday said the Indian Navy will have to remain operationally ready at all times to deal with potential adversaries at sea. Communications and electronic warfare expert Admiral Tripathi has taken over this responsibility after the retirement of R Hari Kumar. Admiral Tripathi takes over as Navy Chief at a time when security challenges have arisen in several strategic waterways, including the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, including the targeting of various merchant vessels by Houthi militants in the region.
Admiral Tripathi told reporters that over the last few years, our Navy has evolved into a war-ready, united, reliable and future-ready force. He said that in view of the existing and emerging challenges in the maritime domain, the Indian Navy will have to be operationally prepared at all times to deal with potential adversaries in peace time and will have to be prepared to win wars at sea and at sea, if called upon.
Admiral Tripathi said that my sole focus and efforts will be in this direction. The Navy Chief also said that he would give priority to enhancing the Navy’s ongoing efforts to enhance self-reliance. He said I will also strengthen the Indian Navy’s ongoing efforts towards self-reliance, in introducing new technologies and in becoming an important pillar of national development in our collective efforts for a developed India.
Admiral Tripathi said he would also focus on issues related to human resources of the force. Before assuming charge as the Navy Chief, he paid tribute to the country’s martyred heroes at the National War Memorial. He was given a guard of honor in the courtyard of South Block of Raisina Hills. Admiral Tripathi sought the blessings of his mother Rajni Tripathi before assuming charge as the Navy Chief.
