Accusations of bodily harm and damage to property are in the air. He is said to have become violent towards a woman who has not yet been named. However, it is said to be his girlfriend, with whom he is back together according to an insider. There is talk of a toxic relationship.
The alleged perpetrator remained silent for a long time. Then he finally made a statement and admitted his guilt. “Last weekend something happened that should never have happened. I committed assault and destroyed objects in an apartment while I was intoxicated with alcohol and cocaine after an argument,” Norwegian broadcaster NRK quoted him as saying.
Prince Haakon, Mette-Marit’s husband, also spoke out shortly after the events, speaking of a “serious matter”. He used the same words on Monday when he appeared before the press ahead of the Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) oil and energy exhibition in Stavanger. Journalists from several Norwegian media outlets took the opportunity to ask the Crown Prince about his stepson.
“We want to make sure that everyone involved gets good help and support – that they have good people around them. This case is now in the legal system and is being handled by the police. That way all parties are being heard, which is good. I have great confidence that they will do this in an orderly, professional and fair manner,” he said.
A reporter also wanted to know whether Mette-Marit and Haakon knew about the 27-year-old’s drug problems. “We are very close to the situation,” Haakon admitted. “So we knew what Marius told us. We knew about some of these complex problems. But I don’t want to go into detail here.”
