“In terms of foreign policy, we look extremely worrisome, we are absent from the political chair,” said former Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Plugchieva in “Face to Face”, referring to the unstable political situation in our country.

“I can hardly bring greater clarity to the political picture in Bulgaria at the moment, but we heard that by tomorrow there is expected to be a reaction from the DPS whether to accept the second mandate”, she also commented.

Plugchieva pointed out that “everyone is unanimous that there should be a government, but they don’t find a way to unite”, giving the example of France: “She gave a lesson in democracy in just one week. The result showed that although it was not the perfect solution, the left united with the extreme left and won”. In her words, it is time for something to happen in Bulgaria as well: “I call on this handful of political leaders to find a solution, the state cannot pay such a high price again”. “Here we are talking about very serious and vital decisions – for the country’s economy, for Schengen, for the Eurozone, etc.,” she added.

“I recently returned from Berlin – they bombarded me with questions, they cannot explain what is happening in Bulgaria. I told them the truth, albeit very abbreviated, but I also shared with them my hope that Bulgaria will once again be that strong partner in the EU.” , Plugchieva also pointed out.

“If we must be honest, Bulgaria is on the front line for negative events. The processes in the EU cause more anxiety than joy, there are too many problems and crises left – there is a need for digital and digital transition, more investments and innovations, strengthening of defense, competitiveness, and for Bulgaria to participate on the world stage, as it should,” she believes. “As they told us – we had to do our homework, now Europe has to do its homework in order not to be left behind on the world stage and not to lose positions”, specified the former deputy prime minister.

“It is in the EU that the so-called classical parties try to say that the status quo has been preserved, but the citizens have clearly shown that they do not want the current situation to continue,” she commented. The new group in the EP “Patriots for Europe” – the party led by the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, in its composition is the Austrian Freedom Party – especially extreme, wants “re-migration”, and they elected Jordan Bardela – leader of the “National Assembly” as president of Marine Le Pen – it will be the third parliamentary group, which makes it extremely important and decisive, Plugchieva also explained.

“What should the EP and the EC do – strengthening the economic stability of Europe, a road map, less bureaucracy, more real support for small and medium-sized businesses, which provide more than 80% of jobs in Europe,” she believes. According to Plugchieva, the Green Deal should be revised: “Von der Leyen and the EPP, for example, previously insisted that the production of internal combustion engines be stopped by 2035 – now the same party has announced that this part of the law will not remain so. The Green Deal is also unfair to farmers”.

“We come to the conclusion that it is true what Helmut Kohl said some time ago – leaders with courage and vision are needed – the legacy that Von der Leyen left, unfortunately, cannot boast of successes. I assume and at least hope, that with the adjustments and the new political landscape, there will be new requirements and new criteria that will be put before the EC,” she added.

Plugchieva is convinced that “public pressure will open the eyes, and if not, as you can see, far-right parties will continue to win.” “Macron, for example, falls into a sandwich and remains in a difficult situation, this is not only in France – this is the situation in the entire European political scene”, she further specified, adding that “European leaders must correct their positions”.

“The elections in the USA, of course, have great significance for Europe. Regarding Trump – personally his requests about the war in Ukraine, specifically that he will stop it for 24 hours – I support him because it is a search for diplomacy and dialogue. Let’s not speculate, but what he is saying is that he will leave Europe to the Europeans to take care of themselves, because he has an interest in Asia, in China. Europe should roll up its sleeves,” concluded Plugchieva.
