“We must no longer oppose established players in the sector to start-ups”

by time news

Ne are seven companies, start-ups and innovative SMEs to have been chosen from the French space sector. We owe our strong growth to a model of rapid innovation that is close to the market, as well as to the attraction of capital to the space sector – a sector that represents significant growth and job prospects, for our regions and for the benefit of all. a better life on Earth.

We have received a mandate from the Minister of the Economy to structure the representation of emerging space companies within the space sector. It is a fundamental work necessary, that we register, beyond the seven of us, in a long-term approach, and in particular thanks to a consultation that we will launch very soon. We invite all the actors who recognize themselves in this dynamic to mobilize so that we are properly represented and participate in building the national vision within the State-industry consultation committee (COSPACE) – which we began to do since beginning of the year.

With new players and emerging markets, the State has begun to rethink its space policy. This is a major challenge to ensure the presence of pioneering players in new uses and preserve our sovereignty, with products and services that are as reliable as they are competitive. In this respect, the ambition of the France 2030 plan is essential. We are pleased that two-thirds of the space component aims to finance projects by emerging and innovative players; notably in the form of service contracts and no longer just grants. France is thus positioned as the European leader in this strategic pivot.

Our network of emerging and innovative French players does not lack skills or know-how, which have made it possible to set up systems in orbit around the Earth, several constellations of satellites, software that makes life easier for space operators , or prototypes that prefigure future space architectures. Many of us have succeeded in proving the relevance of their products and building an offer that is exported even against other emerging players, particularly Americans.

Ariadne’s model

Our companies are not lacking in vision either. Unlike our American counterparts, for example, we are rolling it out step by step, building our credibility and our robustness. Above all, we are part of a commercial potential that is essential and in no way revolutionary, because it is a model that we know well: that of Ariane! Since 1980, without the commercial market which provides the largest share of income, we would never have had the means for such sovereign access to space!
