Whether it’s goodbye or see you later, only time will tell. But what is certain at this time is that La Banda del Camín will say goodbye to the stage this Saturday with a concert at the Garufa Club. The last of 25 years of rock and roll with a Corus accent. At the head of the group that provided the soundtrack to the great deeds of the Dpor when there were them, was and still is Francisco Gómez Seijo (A Corua, 1960), who said that, he still doesn’t contribute much. But if we talk about Gandy, things change, because if we had to give a face to rock in A Corua, this would undoubtedly be his, with his curls and his blue and white Fender Telecaster. It’s hard to believe that this iconic guitar—if it could talk, what would it say!—would go to collect dust. But there is still Saturday’s party, because it is more than a concert. Of course, if they don’t already have the ticket, they will have to resign themselves to being told, because they have been sold out for days.
—Seriously, we won’t see The Truck Gang again?
—You never know, because we are a big family. We have been friends for a long time, we have been together for 25 years. But the truck needs repair. Or many repairs. Over time, more and more personal and professional commitments have arisen, some musicians have been assigned outside the city. And putting patches, as we have always done, well we could continue, but we believed that the project needed to stop. And I need it too.
—But he looks barbaric!
-I’m very tired. I still do kid things, and I’m already 63 years old. It takes me a long time to recover after each concert. But each one continue with their personal projects. I don’t think everyone will stay home. I have my personal and work demands that force me to regain strength. I’m having a hard time pulling the truck right now.
—They won’t even take the truck out if the Dpor rises?
—Well, if it rises we’ll get it out for sure! As is, although it is half fixed. But hey, they’ll have to invite us to a party, which we’re not going to play on the porch either. After so many years we play without rehearsing. And works. We have played in all possible conditions, and not always the best.
—Countless musicians have passed through the band.
—In total 28. And many will be on stage on Saturday. Others can’t or will simply come but won’t play because they haven’t had time to stop by the rehearsal room. But they will join the party.
—More than a group they always seemed like a meeting of friends.
—That is our intention, to have a good time. Form a commune, we were all friends and we still are. But it all came about because of Manolo Aren, and I hope he can come to open or close the concert. In a truck from Almacenes Monte Alto, he put a sheet on which he had painted with polish We want more rock. He grabbed a sound system and took us up, I think at some carnivals, to play all over the city. In the next Dpor feat we repeated and then they started calling us to play.
—For this Saturday’s concert they have prepared a party that goes beyond the musical, as they already did with the recording of their album Callos, ron y rock&roll.
—Farinarium and pastry chef Naya invite us to their Christmas sweets, which they bring so many that we can’t even finish them. And Gadis gives us an even bigger basket than in recent years. Wow, the concert is at ten, but it’s better to be there an hour before to enjoy the party.
—If you leave the stage, will you now focus on your work as a concert promoter?
—It’s what I’ve been doing for years. But what I would like to do most is recover that winter circuit through local groups’ halls. Have some institutional support to promote the bands here in the rooms here. That is the dream of my life, what I have always liked and what I have always opted for. More than bringing me a great international artist, which I already did. I organized concerts by Whitesnake, by Miguel Bos, I set up the Noroeste Pop Rock for several years… But I prefer to stick with working with the groups here. You won’t make as much money, but you’re at home and doing something you believe in. I would stay there until my legs couldn’t hold me.
The only merit that I recognize is that I have always been good at gathering friends.
To say goodbye, La Banda del Camín could not have chosen a better place, the Garufa Club, where, curiously, they had not played yet: We closed the date a year or so ago. Of course, at that time we didn’t know it would be the last concert, explains Gandy.
—They have sold out tickets. There are many people who demand a second farewell.
—Many have told us that it coincides with the company dinner and things like that. Even the manager of Tanxugueiras told me that we had to do another concert, because it coincides with his and he won’t be able to come, of course. But these dates are like that, there are a thousand commitments. And, even so, we have sold out, yes. I don’t know if they come to see us or to see each other. It’s a social thing, and we love it. A meeting of friends who will see each other at least for Christmas.
—But be careful, beyond the party you are professionals.
—The band has always had phenomenal musicians. Except for me, who is a tonadillero who just hits the spot, the rest are great musicians.

—Well, if I have to give myself some credit, I’ll point out that I’ve always been good at gathering friends and organizing events.
—No matter how much I try, I can’t see him closing the case of his electric guitar.
—My head is spinning a lot, there can always be some acoustic concert, sitting down… But nothing of the size of La Banda del Camín. And yes, I look at the Telecaster, I think I’m going to close the case and it’s going to stay there and it makes me sick, but I’m sure we’ll have a party in the rehearsal room, which is big and we’re not going to leave it.
