We started a new direction of protection of abused women and children

Ombudsperson Atyr Abdrahmatova announced today, March 3, that she has started a new direction of helping women and children who are victims of violence. According to Abdrahmatova, the participation of experts and lawyers of non-governmental organizations in all stages of the protection of their rights is being considered.

Then, as noted by the country’s chief human rights defender, it will help to make the state system of support for victims effective and accessible to everyone.

“The goal of the initiative is to jointly help a specific woman and a specific child who could not get proper help, so that they are not alone with their problem, to strengthen inter-institutional cooperation. “The new direction of work includes legal assistance to victims of abuse, referral to those who will provide social and psychological support, and, if necessary, finding a temporary shelter,” says the ombudsman.

According to the results of independent studies, 60% of the cases of women and children who are victims of violence remain closed, because they do not know who and where to turn, and some do not trust government agencies.

The ombudsman notes that every year he receives about 200 complaints about women and children, and only those who have publicly disclosed their story. (RK)
