Three hundred thousand euros with a few options, naturally “excluding penalty”, such was the price of a new 911 Sport Classic. From now on, you will have to add a minimum of 100,000 euros to buy a second-hand one of the 1,250 copies initially produced. The price of scarcity. Entirely supported by the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur department, the Sport Classic is based on the ultra-contemporary platform of the current 911 Turbo – with its 3.7 liter Flat 6 with 550 hp. As for its dazzlingness, it intoxicates with the old-fashioned scent of the 911 from 1963, the very first exhibited at MoMA. Exit the four-wheel drive, the automatic transmission, the car drives with a hand as firm as that of Robert Redford at the wheel of his vintage 911 in “Spy Game”. To the exact color, or almost, since the shades draw on the gray of the 356 from the 1950s. A coquettishness coupled with a number on the door left to the customer’s choice, painted stripes and cognac leather covering every cm2. To top it off, the most powerful 911 with a mechanical gearbox is easy to drive. The controlled suspension and the PASM (trajectory control) system are carefully calibrated.

The dashboard

Always the same: a rev counter that stares you in the whites of your eyes, a high steering wheel close to the body that you instinctively grab at “10:10”, all sitting low, barely more than 20 cm from the bitumen… For a bit, it feels like you’re on the 24 Hours grid! So what does the Sport Classic bring? Refinement. The smallest ventilation slat is covered in leather while the entirely gold 911 logo illuminates the cabin, even at night. Incredibly poetic.

The detail

There are so many. From its rims inspired by the unmistakable Fuchs of the 911 S from 1967 to the ducktail spoiler from the RS 2.7 from 1972… But its houndstooth fabric from 1965 is to die for.

The good surprise

If the Sport Classic takes the wide rear wings of the 911 Turbo, the absence of air inlet – thanks to a cooling system for which it is exclusive – gives it more elegance. A sense of harmony complemented by an almost imperceptible double boss on the roof and hood. Hard to beat. Except perhaps the unpublished S/T, new to the catalog.

Regret

Everything about her is excellence… What can we really blame the Mona Lisa? Only, perhaps, its speculative nature: among the 1,250 copies that have found a buyer, some are already selling for much more than the price of the new model. The destiny of collectors.
