LE FIGARO. – You were the first to partially restore the sight of a blind person, thanks to a revolutionary technique, theoptogenetics. what are the results?

Professor José-Alain SAHEL. – After more than ten years of research conducted at the Vision Institute by the company GenSight, we carried out a clinical trial on nine patients suffering from end-stage pigmentary retinopathy, therefore practically blind. The results in the first patient were published in 2021, and we are preparing a new publication including all the data. In summary, after treatment and long rehabilitation, he was able to see the white stripes of a protected passage and distinguish, catch and count objects.
