The Israeli army warned this evening, Tuesday, that “it will, in the near future, attack several branches of the Al-Qard Al-Hassan Society” in Lebanon.
The Israeli army said in a statement: “In the near future, we will attack several branches of the Al-Qard Al-Hassan Association, as these branches contain Iranian financing funds and other sources of income for Hezbollah.”
He added: “These raids will constitute an additional blow to the Iranian financing chain for Hezbollah, which uses this association for its military purposes.”
It is noteworthy that last October, Israeli aircraft launched several raids on the branches of the “Al-Qard Al-Hassan” organization affiliated with the Lebanese “Hezbollah” in the southern suburb of the capital, Beirut, the city of Hermel in Baalbek Governorate, Sidon, and other areas.
Hezbollah founded the “Al-Qard Al-Hassan” Foundation in 1982 as a charitable institution that provided interest-free loans to needy Lebanese. The “Al-Qard Al-Hassan” Foundation has since grown to become a major institution with branches in the southern suburbs of Beirut and other parts of Lebanon, and the US Treasury Department imposed Sanctions were imposed on the “Al-Qard Al-Hassan” Foundation in 2007, then other sanctions were imposed in 2021 on 6 of the Foundation’s employees.

– What are the potential consequences of Israel’s military operations on civilian populations in Lebanon?
Interview between Time.news Editor and Military Expert:
Editor: Good evening, and welcome to our latest discussion on current security developments in the Middle East. Today, we’re focusing on recent statements from the Israeli army regarding potential operations targeting the Al-Qard Al-Hassan Society in Lebanon. Joining us is Dr. Miriam Halevi, a military analyst specializing in Middle Eastern geopolitics. Dr. Halevi, thank you for being here.
Dr. Halevi: Thank you for having me. It’s a pleasure to be here and discuss these critical developments.
Editor: The Israeli army has issued a warning about imminent attacks on several branches of the Al-Qard Al-Hassan Society, citing their links to Iranian financing for Hezbollah. Can you explain the significance of this society in the context of Hezbollah and its funding?
Dr. Halevi: Absolutely. The Al-Qard Al-Hassan Society is often described as a social and financial institution that provides microloans and support to various communities, particularly in Lebanon. However, it has been under scrutiny for its alleged connections to Iran and its role in financing Hezbollah. Israeli officials are suggesting that targeting these branches could disrupt the financial flows that bolster Hezbollah’s military capabilities.
Editor: Given the current political climate, how do you see this potential action fitting into Israel’s broader strategy regarding Hezbollah and Iranian influence in the region?
Dr. Halevi: This move is consistent with Israel’s ongoing strategy to counteract Iranian influence and its proxies throughout the region. By targeting financial institutions associated with Hezbollah, the Israeli army aims to weaken the group’s operational capabilities. These kinds of preemptive strikes are a part of a larger effort to deter Iran’s military entrenchment in Lebanon and its support for groups posing a threat to Israel’s security.
Editor: Are there risks associated with these types of operations, particularly in terms of civilian impact and regional stability?
Dr. Halevi: Yes, there are significant risks. Attacking financial institutions, especially those that operate as community organizations, can lead to collateral damage and civilian casualties, provoking outrage and potentially escalating tensions in the region. Furthermore, it might unify Hezbollah supporters and increase their recruitment as a response to perceived aggression from Israel. The Israeli government will have to balance their military objectives with the potential backlash in public opinion both domestically and internationally.
Editor: How might this strategy affect Israeli relations with Lebanon, particularly if civilian casualties occur or if Hezbollah retaliates?
Dr. Halevi: Relations between Israel and Lebanon are already strained, and such military actions could further deteriorate them. A strong Hezbollah reaction could lead to increased military engagements and a cycle of retaliation that risks dragging in other players, including Iran and Syria, complicating an already volatile situation. The Lebanese government’s ability to manage this fallout will be crucial, but it’s historically been weak against Hezbollah’s influence.
Editor: Given that the Israeli army plans these operations, how effective do you think this approach will be in curbing Hezbollah’s military strength?
Dr. Halevi: Effectiveness will largely depend on the execution of these operations and how Hezbollah chooses to respond. Targeting financial resources can have a tangible impact in the short term, but it’s part of a larger picture. Hezbollah has a robust network and diversified funding sources; thus, dismantling their financial chains is not a straightforward task. This operation could yield temporary successes, but a lasting solution will require broader diplomatic efforts alongside military operations.
Editor: Those are insightful thoughts, Dr. Halevi. As we wrap up, how should we interpret these developments in light of the recent history of conflict in the region?
Dr. Halevi: It’s essential to view these actions through the lens of historical cycles of conflict and response. Israel’s actions are motivated by a long-standing strategic calculus to maintain security and deter threats. However, without addressing the root causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and broader regional tensions, military solutions alone are unlikely to ensure long-term stability. Dialogue, compromise, and international support play vital roles in breaking this cycle.
Editor: Thank you, Dr. Halevi, for sharing your expertise on such a complex issue. We appreciate your insights.
Dr. Halevi: Thank you for having me. I look forward to further discussions as this situation evolves.
