The increase of the student allowance to 2,500 euros was announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, speaking at the DAP conference.

More specifically, referring to the housing problem, Mr. Mitsotakis said: “But allow me to say a couple of words about the other big problem that young people always talk to me about, wherever I go in our country. This is nothing more than homelessness and high rents. I know well how much this concerns your daily life. But I must admit that it is a challenge that requires many actions in parallel fields. It cannot find an automatic solution. In the first phase, we have agreed with the Minister to increase even more the housing allowance, reaching up to 2,500 euros. I want to remind you that we were already the ones who increased it to 2,000 euros under the condition of cohabitation. And this is an important breath for students who are studying away from their permanent place of residence. I know the situation in the student residences, it is not good and we need to make substantial interventions to upgrade them. However, we have already launched the construction of five new student residences that will house almost 10,000 students across the country. Because we want your stay in a modern, clean, beautiful, tasteful student residence to be part of your university experience. Again, however, all this is not enough, because you know very well that the issue is not only student housing, but youth housing as a whole. The one that will be able to free you from the family home, hosting your own personal path, when you will have finished the university”. A government source clarified regarding Mitsotakis’ statements that the announced increase concerns students studying in the country’s regional universities and will be implemented from September 2024 – that is, from the new academic year, not retroactively. This is a support measure for regional universities.
At the same time, Mr. Mitsotakis put the youth of New Democracy in electoral readiness speaking t to National Conference of the DAP-NDFK, in the “Michalis Mouroutsos” indoor gym, in Dafni.
The president of New Democracy described the June election for the European Parliament as crucial and emphasized that the counter is now zeroing. “The ballot box must be filled again with blue ballots. Close your ears to apathy and cynicism that everyone is the same. Inoculate our lineup with your freshness and ideas. We are a 50-year-old faction but we are young” was the message of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the DAP members, expressing his certainty that the blue faction will win this bet as well.
Mr. Mitsotakis launched a fierce attack on PASOK and SYRIZA for their stance on private universities, said that Kasselakis and Androulakis are fighting for the primacy of the losers and predicted that on the way to the European elections, a smear campaign from the opposition awaits. The prime minister even noted on the occasion of the recent mobilizations for the tragedy of Temba that some political hypocrites want to monopolize “the collective sadness of the whole country”.
The prime minister noted, among other things, in his speech:
“The free university that you first planned since 1987 is finally being voted on. And in a few weeks we celebrate 50 years of ND.
We have every reason to be proud of this offering route.
ND is the party that put our country in Europe and kept it, now leading it to social upliftment.
Six years later (since the last DAP national conference) and despite the successive crises that intervened, all of that looks like a distant nightmare.
The Greece of 2024 has the highest growth rates and now has single digit unemployment. Greek citizens, primarily the middle class, were exempted from dozens of tax burdens.
The minimum wage will soon exceed 800 euros. 600,000 civil servants saw raises after 14 years. I had said a goal of 1,500 euros average salary and 950 minimum at the end of the four years, I am sure that we will achieve this goal. Citizens’ understanding of our mistakes

We will not allow the creation of universities of some floors in an apartment building. And if we maintain the admission base and ensure that there will be strict supervision by the ETHAE which also controls the public universities.
In other words, this is a well thought out initiative. An initiative that was late in coming to our country. And I referred to the need to overcome.
What will Kasselakis say if the University he studied at comes?
And perhaps the most emblematic pathology, an indication of a hostage of the political system, was this monopoly of higher education by the state: we give the freedom of choice to each and every young person, to be able to study in our country. You see the confusion and internal turmoil in the opposition.
Mr. Kasselakis says no, but he himself studied at a non-state non-profit university. Explain this contradiction to me. If the university wants to come to Greece, what will Mr. Kasselakis say? That he doesn’t want to come?
I can’t say much about Mr. Androulakis, I am very impressed how he succeeded and got his original position back at a time when the former president of PASOK is in favor of the constitutionality and necessity of the regulation.
This is a problem whether SYRIZA will be red or green and those who are fighting for the first place among the defeated in the political scene.
Our opponents are only problems. Thank you for fighting to keep your schools open in the midst of terrorism by a minority who thought they could impose their views on the majority through the power of violence. The violence at the Greek university is over, it belongs to another era, let’s move on.

European elections: They are not suitable for messages of indifference and inexpensive protest
