Mirit Simon, mother of the students at the school, defends: “We call on Klish to resign or give us information. We are fed by the media and do not receive information directly from the municipality. Currently 680 students do not know where they start their year on September 1st.
“I am the mother of twins who are entering the third grade, who suffered from corona, closures and strikes, and this will be the straw that broke the camel’s back. It is impossible not to start a year without sitting at the table with us and giving us solutions or common thinking.
“We no longer talk about the need to inspect the buildings in which the students study once a year, engineers who failed and I am a professional who did not inspect a building that began to crumble at the end of the school year, and only by a miracle was a disaster avoided. This is a 90-year-old building. We want a routine and a normal and sane start to school.”
Earlier, the municipality stated that a solution to the problem with the shields had been found, and that replacement classes had been found for all students within the school.
Baruch Shmailov, chairman of the parents’ council, said at the end: “Today there was a protest in Aroma square in Kiryat Haim. This is the opening shot and from here we will only intensify the protest measures. Hundreds of parents and children came to shout the voice of 700 children and 100 transparent staff members who do not know where they will study on 1.09.22. Shame and disgrace to Haifa municipality. Poverty certificate for the State of Israel”.
The municipality said: “A short time ago, a meeting concluded regarding the defenders’ school, led by the mayor, the district director of the Ministry of Education, and the professionals in the municipality. At the meeting, the solutions for all the students of the school were examined, so that they will all study in buildings adjacent to the existing building.
“It should be noted that the engineering report regarding the physical condition of the building was submitted last Wednesday, and only after it was it possible to build a work plan. Since then, various solutions have been examined, from a logistical, engineering, and practical point of view. A sum of money will be transferred to the city council for urgent approval to begin initial and immediate treatment, in order to prevent any Delay.
“This is a temporary and short-term solution until the best long-term solution is agreed upon which is being discussed these days. The alternatives to the short-term solution, which are being examined these days, will be presented as soon as possible to the parents’ representatives and the school management. At the same time, the professional teams of the Ministry of Education and the municipality met with the parents’ representatives, including a personal meeting of the district manager with them, and the relationship with the parents will continue.
“The Ministry of Education and the Municipality of Haifa work in close cooperation both regarding the interim solutions and regarding the permanent solutions related to the school structure.”
