Points shared between Frankfurt and Bochum

Eintracht Frankfurt missed the longed-for home win against VfL Bochum. The game on Saturday afternoon ended 1:1 (1:1). Omar Marmoush scored for Frankfurt (14th minute), Moritz Broschinski was successful for the guests (17th).

Eintracht coach Dino Toppmöller’s personnel problems – Tuta and Niels Nkounkou were suspended, junior Dina Ebimbe was injured – worsened before kick-off: Sasa Kalajdzic signed off due to the birth of his child, keeper Kevin Trapp was injured during the warm-up. Eintracht, who were looking to make amends after losing 2-0 in Cologne last weekend, found it difficult to get into the game.

Bochum hits back after Marmoush hit

The guests had their first big chance: a pinball from Hugo Larsson and Philipp Max landed at the feet of Matus Bero, who was free-standing and shot well past the goal (13th minute). On the other side, the Frankfurters were successful with their first good attack: Mario Götze sent Farès Chaibi a pass worth seeing, the cross found Marmoush, who was able to put the ball past VfL keeper Manuel Riemann and into the goal (14th).

However, the joy of taking the lead didn’t last long. Broschinski dribbled his way into the Eintracht penalty area, Willian Pacho deflected his shot attempt into his own goal, making it unstoppable for Grahl (17th). A few minutes later there was the next personnel setback when Hugo Larsson had to leave the pitch injured. Donny van de Beek came on for the Swede.

As a result, Eintracht tried hard, but were unable to create any real chances to score. Bochum became dangerous again with a counterattack, but Kevin Stöger didn’t get the shot on goal (27′). So after a manageable first half it remained a draw.

Pacho and Chaibi miss the best chances

The second half began with some great chances: the busy Marmoush had a clear shot from around 13 meters, but chased the ball over the box (48th). Ten minutes later, Pacho had the chance to make it 2-1 after a free-kick cross from Max, but he shot past from a few meters free-standing.

But Bochum also stayed in the game: Broschinski played Asano free, who missed miserably from a promising position (59th). In the 66th minute, Grahl had to parry a shot from the Japanese. In return, new signing Hugo Ekitiké, who came on as a substitute for Marmoush, danced his way through the penalty area and played Chaibi well – but the Algerian’s nerves failed him when he finished. Frankfurt’s attacks became more and more furious: Ansgar Knauff shot a direct shot just over the goal (69′).

Finally, VfL managed to calm the game down a bit. At Eintracht Frankfurt, the final offensive that had been hoped for did not materialize, so the points remained divided. This was deserved after a rather weak performance from Eintracht, in which Van de Beek was substituted shortly before the end. The Frankfurters are still in sixth place in the table and now have 32 points in their account.
