Pop star Selena Gomez (32) has joined the ranks of ‘young billionaires’.
According to Bloomberg News and other sources on the 6th (local time), Gomez has accumulated a fortune of $1.3 billion (approximately 1.74 trillion won), making her first appearance on the media’s list of billionaires.
Gomez’s cosmetics brand Rare Beauty accounts for 81% of her total net worth. Rare Beauty was launched in 2020 and is very popular among teenagers. Gomez is estimated to own 51% of the company. According to market analysis firm Pitchbook, Rare Beauty’s annual sales last year were $350 million (about 468.8 billion won).
The success of the brand has made Gomez one of the youngest self-made women on the list of billionaires, along with close friends Taylor Swift and Rihanna.
Bloomberg analyzed that while pop star Taylor Swift has primarily built her wealth through music royalties and performance income, Gomez has amassed her wealth by building a strong social media presence and leveraging that for her business.
Gomez currently has 424 million followers on Instagram, behind only soccer stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
He has been active in promoting Rare Beauty through social media. “I worked really hard to create a product that was more than just something with my name on it,” Gomez said in a radio interview last year. “I wanted it to be great, and I wanted to send the message that makeup should be fun.”
Meanwhile, Selena Gomez debuted at the age of 7 on the TV children’s program ‘Barney and Friends’ and gained huge popularity by appearing on the Disney Channel sitcom ‘Wizards of Darkness’.
