The year 2022 is indeed the hottest ever recorded in metropolitan France. “Punctuated by climatic extremes, 2022 is a symptom of climate change in France”, announced this Friday Météo France in a press release. The organization was able to observe 14.5 degrees of average temperature. “2022 ranks first” since the start of the readings in 1900, “very far ahead of 2020 which held the record until now”, with 14.07 ° C, specifies Météo France.

“The whole country is concerned: 2022 is the hottest year in all administrative regions except in Île-de-France where 2022 ranks 2nd”, continues the meteorological institute.

Météo France also evokes an “exceptionally dry year, marked by a record rainfall deficit of 25%”. Last year ranks second among the “least wet” years (since measurements began in 1959). This deficit, the precise figure of which is to be published later, is almost tied with that measured in 1989, specifies the meteorological institute which must confirm “at the end of the month” which of the two years is the driest.
