Varied, sometimes very windy weather is expected in Austria next week. According to the forecast by the ZAMG (Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics) on Sunday, daily high temperatures of a maximum of ten degrees Celsius are expected before a powerful low over north-eastern Europe will have Austria under control again on Friday.
The week starts on Monday south of the main Alpine ridge and in the south-east largely dry and often cloudy. North of the main ridge of the Alps and in the north and east, on the other hand, the sky is mostly overcast. While in the morning between Vorarlberg and western Lower Austria there are often rain or sleet showers in the morning, further in the east the first showers only start in the afternoon. The snow line is initially between 500 and 800 meters above sea level. By the evening, however, the snow line will drop down to low altitudes. The wind comes from west to northwest and blows briskly, in the east it is also strong. Hurricane-like gusts are to be expected in some parts of the mountains. The early temperatures will be between minus seven and plus four degrees Celsius, with daily maximum temperatures between three and ten degrees Celsius. It is warmest in the south-east with a north foehn.
Am Tuesday the disturbance influence in the Eastern Alps decreases, the air pressure begins to rise. The weather calms down significantly and during the day the sunny and also dry weather character prevails. Only at the northern edge of the Alps are there still numerous residual clouds, which at a snowfall level between 400 and 800 meters above sea level also bring light rain or snowfall. During the course of the day, however, the precipitation decreases and the clouds become fewer and fewer. A few denser clouds also adorn the sky in the Mühlviertel and Waldviertel in the afternoon. However, rain or snow is not to be expected here. The prevailing wind direction remains west to north-west. The wind still blows moderately to briskly in the east and in the foehn valleys south of the main Alpine ridge. According to the forecast, it will be between minus two and plus three degrees Celsius in the morning and three to eight degrees Celsius in the afternoon, with the highest values in south-eastern Styria.
Am Wednesday a weak intermediate high influence is to be expected, the sun often shines. In the western Danube region, however, some low cloud layers can last longer, otherwise fog and high fog in the valleys and basins usually dissipate in the morning hours. The wind comes inconsistently from southeast to west and blows only weakly to moderately throughout the day. In the morning it should be between minus ten and zero degrees Celsius, during the day one to six degrees Celsius.

The snow line begins to drop significantly, and it often snows down to low altitudes by the evening. Snow falls most frequently on the north side of the Alps, but there are also a few snow and sleet showers in the north and east. During the day it loosens up at least temporarily away from the northern jam areas, but it remains unstable here. The south is favored by the weather, where it usually stays dry and the sun shines more frequently with the support of the north foehn. The wind will increase and blow briskly to strongly, in the north sometimes stormy from the north-west. Early temperatures will be between minus eight and plus one degree Celsius, maximum daily temperatures between minus two and plus eight degrees Celsius, it is mildest in the southeast.
Am Friday According to the forecast, a powerful low over north-eastern Europe should have Austria under control in terms of weather. With the influx of cold, damp air, clouds will predominate and some snow showers will pass, mostly in the north and east and generally on the northern edge of the Alps. It is largely free of precipitation in the south. During the day, the air from the northeast gradually dries up, the clouds loosen up and the sun is still showing up in some areas. The wind is still brisk to strong, with gusts of wind from the north-west on the mountains.
