The landslide was triggered by violent thunderstorms, which caused severe damage in Austria. Two of the five Austrian districts, namely Pinzgau and Pongau, were particularly affected.
More than 180 people had to be evacuated, the fire brigades moved out on more than 500 missions. These ranged from full basements to rescuing individual people trapped by mudslides.

The authorities want to find out how severe the damage is with the help of reconnaissance flights. Pictures from the air also show the train swallowed by rubble.
