After the night, which was one of the hottest this year, the day is expected to be partly cloudy, with showers or thunderstorms in places. By evening they will cease and the clouds will reduce.
“After many tropical nights, we wake up to stormy mornings in many places, and umbrellas will come in handy. Thunderstorms (around 6:15 am) are currently visible mainly in Prague and central Bohemia, the Vysočina or the Pardubice region,” the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute said.
Strong thunderstorms with heavy rain could occur in the north-east of the country today. It may rain about 30 millimetersin repeated and greater storms. There is also a risk of hail and wind gusts of up to 70 km/h. The warning applies to part of the regions of Hradec Králové, Pardubice and Olomouc and to the entire Moravian-Silesian region.
The lowest night temperatures will be between 21 and 17 °C, the highest daytime temperatures 29 to 33 °Cat 1000 m in the mountains around 25 °C. Weak variable wind 1 to 4 m/s, increasing temporarily during thunderstorms. “Although the day will be slightly cooler than today, it will remain unpleasantly stuffy as there will be more moisture in the air,” added meteorologists.

Later in the afternoon and evening, increasing clouds from the southwest and, especially in Bohemia, showers or thunder, even strong. Lowest night temperature 20 to 16 °C. Highest daily temperature 29 to 33 °C, in the southeast up to 35 °C. Weak variable wind will increase temporarily up to 4 m/s during thunderstorms.
In the south of Moravia, even above 34 °C
In southern Moravia, the temperature will rise above 34 °C today and Fridaymeteorologists have raised the danger level for this area.
A high temperature warning will be in place for most of the area until 8pm on Friday. “On Saturday, August 17, a cold front will move over our territory and cool down in most areas, in the southern half of Moravia, however, the maximum temperature will continue to be higher than 31 degrees Celsius. Due to the prolonged dry and very hot weather, there will be a risk of fires starting and spreading until further notice, especially in the South Moravia area and the surrounding area,” the meteorologists said.
Outlook for the weekend
- Saturday’s temperature will be slightly above 30 °C again. It will be cloudy to cloudy, initially partly cloudy in the east. First in Bohemia and gradually in other places, sometimes rain or showers, sometimes thunderstorms, even strong ones.
- Lowest night temperature 21 to 17 °C. Highest temperature during the day 23 to 28 °C, in the south-east and east around 31 °C. Weak variable wind will increase up to 4 m/s, during the day moderate westerly wind 2 to 5 m/s, temporarily in thunderstorms, they stated meteorologists in the forecast.
- Sunday: Cloudy, but partly cloudy. In places, more frequent showers or rain from the west, occasionally even heavier precipitation. Storms in places, even strong ones. Lowest night temperature 20 to 16 °C. Highest daily temperature 23 to 28 °C, in the eastern half of the territory 28 to 33 °C.
Tropical temperatures represent a high burden on the human organism, there is a risk of overheating and dehydration. In the heat, people should follow the drinking regime, increase the consumption of unsweetened soft drinks and combine them with mineral waters. In the heat, it is advisable to limit physical activity in the afternoon and evening. Children and animals should not be left in direct sunlight, especially not in parked cars.
