The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) reported that the weather conditions affecting the country could favor the presence of severe local storms, which translates into abundant rain and strong wind in some areas.

Perspective Writing

As reported, when moisture enters from both coasts, rains accompanied by electrical activity are expected over the Central Highlands and other regions of the country.

For this reason, it is recommended to maintain the necessary precautions due to the expected rains, sudden flooding of rivers, floods, mass movements, lahars in the volcanic chain and damage to the road network.

recommendations

To avoid being affected by the rains, the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred), has some recommendations so that they can be prepared for the season, these are some of them:

  • Check the condition of your roofs.
  • Remove leaves, branches and debris from gutters and drains.
  • Have a Pet Emergency Kit on hand.
  • In the event of an adverse event, activate a Family Response Plan.
  • In the event of electrical storms, disconnect electrical appliances.
  • Have a 72-Hour Backpack on hand for each family member.
  • Organize cleanup groups in your community.
  • Do not throw garbage in the streets.
  • Locate garbage in designated areas for collection.

On the other hand, the Red Cross establishes some recommendations for the use of vehicles during the rainy season:

  • Check the vehicle before leaving, especially the lights, brakes and tires.
  • Try to have a full tank of gasoline.
  • Wear a seat belt.
  • Drive at low speed and with lights on or even place the middle lights in case visibility is not adequate.
  • Try to increase the distance with the vehicle that precedes.
  • Keep the windshield wiper on and if possible keep a cloth nearby to clean the inside of the windows.
  • Avoid making sudden or dangerous maneuvers.
  • Try to always keep the lane.
  • Avoid stopping in areas where a large amount of water may flow, or crossing flooded sections to prevent the force of the water from dragging you away.
  • Keep a First Aid kit.
  • In case of emergency, do not hesitate to call the emergency numbers of the relief bodies.
