The international money transfer system Webmoney will temporarily suspend operations for replenishing and transferring electronic money through ruble wallets in accordance with the instructions of the Central Bank of Russia. The “freeze” of these operations will be in effect for six months, starting from December 7.

“On December 6, JSC Bank KKB, the Guarantor and the settlement bank of the System for ruble wallets (WMP, WMR), received an order from the Central Bank of the Russian Federation to suspend replenishment and transfer of electronic means of payment from December 7, 2021 for 6 months. This restriction makes it impossible for the System participants to replenish, exchange and transfer operations via P and R-purses, ”the press service of the system said.

The message states that the ban affects transactions on payment in trade and service enterprises, payment of fines and taxes, withdrawal of rubles to their own bank accounts. At the same time, withdrawal to bank cards remains possible, but only through the Fast Payment System (FPS).

Later, the press service of the service told TASS that the Central Bank’s order came as a surprise to the company. “In our opinion, we do not have and did not have any significant violations justifying the application of such harsh measures (usually this is associated with the withdrawal of capital, payments to unauthorized recipients or deficiencies in the fight against unfair use),” the company said, adding, that the order of the Central Bank will be executed.
