Bangalore: A weekend curfew has been declared in Karnataka after Kovid reported a third wave. The announcement comes after the daily Kovid positive case crossed 2000 on Tuesday.

An emergency meeting chaired by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai was held at around 2.30 pm. Sudhakar, Revenue Minister R. Ashoka and others participated. The weekend curfew is from 10pm on Friday to 5am on Monday. A weekend curfew has been announced for the first two weeks from January 6. The health minister said more stern action would be taken if the situation was not brought under control.

Currently, the curfew lasts from 10 pm to 5 am until January 7. As most of the cases in the state are in Bangalore city, more restrictions will be imposed in Bangalore.

On Tuesday, 142 Omicon cases were confirmed in Karnataka. Kovid positive cases have doubled in the last three days. 1290 people were confirmed infected on Monday and 2053 on Tuesday.

Under the new order, all schools in Bangalore city except classes 10,11,12 and all colleges except medical and para-medical colleges will be closed from Thursday. Pubs, clubs, restaurants, bars and hotels will operate with a seating capacity of only 50 per cent. Cinema halls, multiplexes, theaters and auditoriums are only half full.
