Following the increase in the price of basic food products, the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, gave an ultimatum to food importers, marketers, wholesalers and distributors to stop abusing the pockets of Salvadorans.

The president also indicated through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock that actions will be implemented to benefit Salvadorans, avoiding abuses by distributors and wholesalers.

These distribution points, indicated by the Vice Minister of Agriculture, Oscar Dominguez, will have prices that will help lighten the pockets of Salvadorans.

“Stop abusing the Salvadoran people or don’t complain later, because you are all on file and you all know it. You know the crimes you have committed…”, warned the Head of State.

The president pointed out that, with the confidence that there is no criminal sanction for these increases, “the food importers and distributors are on the list of tax evasion, bribery, smuggling food, putting food in blind spots, bribing Customs people, false declarations.” At the same time, he emphasized that “these actions are criminal.”

The Head of State expects that food prices will be lower today, Saturday.
