dabloons

Paula Peyton / Android Authority

This week’s wonder comes from our friends at hustle. Have you heard of Dabloons? You might be thinking of “Doubloons,” the Spanish gold coins that appear in old pirate movies every now and then. But Dabloons is something completely different — a user-generated TikTok game surrounding fake currency.

  • Think back to 2021 (we know, it seems like forever) when a photo of a cat’s paw with the caption “4 dabloons” went viral on Instagram, followed by a photo of a black cat and its paw.
  • Before you could say “Meow,” the meme was everywhere, including on Tumblr and Reddit, before finally spreading to TikTok. When I got to the latter, users decided they would “earn” Dabloons whenever the cat appeared.
  • Well, Dabloons have no real value, but that doesn’t mean you can’t keep track of your earnings, which is exactly what some players are starting to do.
  • according to hustleThe “Dabloon cat” itself evolved into a fictional merchant of RPGs, selling “stew” to weary travelers in exchange for Dabloons, while others began to role-play such as Dabloon thieves, shopkeepers selling potions to protect against Dabloon theft, and Dabloon cops. , and Dabloon Attorneys. “
  • Brands joined in too, including Ikea and Toys R Us.
  • Sad news though: with some accounts revealing large numbers of Dabloons, Dabloon inflation has been hit hard.

Or why?

  • It’s all really fun, and millennials and Gen Z who use TikTok can enjoy being part of an economy where inflation, the potential for a recession, student loans, and other financial concerns are non-existent.
  • It’s kind of fun to see people enjoying social media for once.
