The Commonwealth Games are being held in Birmingham, England. In this, India’s Meerabai Sanu dominated the women’s 49 kg weightlifting category. He lifted a weight of 88 kg in the snatch category and took a lead that his fellow competitors couldn’t come close to. Similarly, he lifted 113 kg in the clean and jerk category.
He lifted a total of 201 kg and won gold in both snatch and clean and jerk categories. Along with his best performance, he also set a new record in the Commonwealth Games. He won silver at Glasgow Commonwealth and won gold at Gold Coast in 2018. Now he has surprised by winning a hat-trick of medals in the Commonwealth series by kissing the gold medal again.
Indian athlete Bindya Rani Devi won the silver medal in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship. In the women’s 55 kg category, she lifted a total of 202 kg and won the silver medal. Bindya Rani said that she is happy to win silver in the Commonwealth series in which she participated for the first time.

Earlier, India’s Sanket Mahadev Sarkar entered the men’s 55 kg weightlifting category. In the competition, he lifted 113 kg in the snatch category. Subsequently, he lifted 135 kg at the first opportunity in the clean and jerk category and attracted attention. But Sanket Mahadev skied in the next two chances.
Due to this, he lost the opportunity to win gold in Nyabari. He lifted a total of 248 kg in both the snatch and clean and jerk categories to clinch the silver medal. With this, he won India’s first medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

Also, India’s Gururaj Pujaria competed in the 61 kg weightlifting competition. He lifted 118 kg in snatch and 151 kg in clean and jerk. He lifted a total weight of 269 kg and won the third item and bagged the bronze medal.
