‘Weightlifting Fairy’ Park Hye-jeong, a silver medalist at the Paris Olympics, is appearing in Seocheon.

Park Hye-jeong (21, Goyang City Hall), who won a valuable silver medal by lifting a combined 299 kg in the snatch and clean and jerk in the women’s 81 kg and over weightlifting class at the Paris Olympics last month, is competing in the ‘2024 Seocheon East Asian Weightlifting Championships’ opening on the 3rd at the Seocheon County Public Gymnasium in South Chungcheong Province, and attention is focused on Park Hye-jeong, who will be appearing in front of fans for the first time since the Olympics.

Hosted by the East Asian Weightlifting Federation, this competition, in which around 100 athletes from 6 countries including Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Mongolia will participate, will run until the 7th. It is expected that around 500 athletes will visit Seocheon as the △Korea-China-Japan Friendship Exchange Match, △Korea Industrial Weightlifting Federation Chairman’s Cup Competition, and △National University Student Weightlifting Championships will be held simultaneously.

Governor Kim Ki-woong said, “We will do our best to hold a safe and successful competition so that domestic and international athletes can demonstrate their best skills,” and “As this is an international event, we will actively promote Seocheon, the mecca of weightlifting and sports, to the world.”
