Weltbild Customers Given Extended Deadline to Secure Digital Books Amid Bankruptcy Crisis

Update: Deadline Extended

After the collapse of Weltbild, many customers are at risk of losing their digital books or audiobooks. However, this can be prevented.

Update: Instead of August 31, the new deadline for securing your digital content purchased from Weltbild is now September 30, 2024. In a statement obtained by golem.de, the outgoing company informs about the extension. We will provide information on how to secure your books and audio plays in the original announcement.

Original Announcement from August 20

Weltbild is bankrupt. Operations will be ceased by the end of August. Therefore, there are only a few days left to secure e-books purchased from Weltbild for the Tolino e-reader. So anyone who wants to access their books after August 31 must act now. While Tolino is promoted by different companies, part of the Tolino Alliance (including Thalia Mayersche, Hugendubel, Libri), each retailer has its own cloud access and customer accounts. Therefore, anyone with a Weltbild account will lose access.

Weltbild did inform its customers about the end of the shop, but only superficially regarding the options for securing e-books and audiobooks. However, there are online guides on how to link different e-book libraries as well as a guide on how to link existing e-books from other retailers with your own library.

In short, the e-books and audiobooks available in the Weltbild customer account must be saved using the Tolino web reader on a PC and then linked to a customer account of another Tolino provider. As Weltbild operations will cease by the end of August, it is urgent. It is expected that after the cessation of operations, all unprotected content will be irretrievably lost.
