Like every end of the weekend, “Le Parisien” looks back on all the results and highlights of sporting events involving clubs in the Île-de-France region.
The counter-performance: “Wemby” was not enough
Despite a once again sparkling performance (31 points, 14 rebounds, 5 blocks) from Victor Wembanyama, Boulogne-Levallois took the water at home against Roanne, during the 19th day of Betclic Elite (84-102 ). After three consecutive victories, the men of Vincent Collet, runners-up to Monaco in the general classification, have therefore come to a halt. Already in the first leg, the Chorale had taken up the Ile-de-France challenge perfectly by winning 102-77, thus ending a series of 9 successes in a row.
It is also only the second defeat, in 9 games, of the Metropolitans on their floor. However, Victor Wembanyama struggled. After a dull meeting against Fos-sur-mer, the tricolor prodigy put things right, dominating the meeting individually. At the end of the first quarter, “Wemby” had then scored half of his team’s points in less than 7 minutes of play. But the Roannais maneuvered perfectly collectively to widen an irremediable gap in the last quarter.
The descent into hell: Nanterre falls again
A fifth defeat in six games. In Nanterre, the ailments are starting to scare, as the red zone is getting closer as the weeks go by. Saturday, against Portel, Pascal Donnadieu’s men lost again (83-87) on their floor. Dominated in the first two quarters, the Ile-de-France residents, yet relatively skilled in shooting (50%), paid for their 15 ball losses, in an otherwise tight match until the last minutes. Regrets can be fed for the men in green, carried by a very good Ray McCallum.
The crazy scenario: Racing snatches victory after the siren against La Rochelle
The shock of the 16th day of Top 14 has kept all its promises. This Saturday, Racing 92, 4th, won in extremis against La Rochelle, 3rd. However, the Racingmen were mistreated. Even before the end of the first quarter of an hour, the Rochelais had already scored two tries. At the break, it was even with a score of 16 to 28 in favor of the visitors that the two teams returned to the locker room.
In front of their home crowd, Racing 92 wasted no time in starting their comeback after half-time. A quick try from Olivier Klemenczak in the 43rd minute, followed by two penalties from Finn Russell, and the Ciel et Blancs were back in control just after the hour mark.
But as Racing headed for victory, it was a sublime try from Antoine Hastoy that rebalanced the debates in the 73rd minute. When the siren sounded a few minutes later, the score was 36-36. But a final kick from Finn Russell finally frees the public of the Paris La Défense Arena, and offers victory to the Ile-de-France residents.
Earlier in the evening, Stade Français lost to Perpignan (31-24). The end of a fine series of four consecutive victories in the league, and the first defeat of the Stadistes in the Top 14 since the end of November.
The number: 5
And 5! This is the fifth time that Jean-Michel Bazire has won the biggest trotting race in the world, the Prix d’Amérique. His trotter Hooker Berry was the favorite of this 102nd edition, and met all expectations by escaping in the home straight at the Hippodrome de Vincennes.
After the race, the horse’s supporters celebrated the victory by descending from the stands, near the podium. In total, 34,000 spectators attended Hooker Berry’s victory.
The other favorite of the day, Idao de Tillard, was quickly disqualified, sanctioned for having galloped.
