German director Wim Wenders (79) has been honored for his lifeS work at the European Film prize. In thanking the new president of the European Film Academy, Oscar winner Juliette Binoche, for the award received in Lucerne, she alluded to the American elections in which Donald Trump ran against kamala Harris and won.
“Thank you, Madam President. Many of us, lately, would have liked to call another lady, Madam President. But that didn’t happen,” the director said on stage.
Wenders: Making films doesn’t mean being a genius
“The world would be a better place. But while this other guy claims to make America great again, this president has the chance to make European cinema shine again,” Wenders said. Trump’s campaign slogan was “Make America Great Again.”
Wenders, born in Düsseldorf, is one of the most important German directors. He has received numerous awards throughout his career. He celebrated international success with feature films such as “Paris, Texas” and “The Sky Over Berlin”. Wenders is a founding member of the European Film Academy and was its president from 1996 to 2020. (dpa)
