On April 11, in the voice of Thierry Frémaux and Iris Knobloch, The Official Selection of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival was announcedwhich will take place from May 14 to 25 in the everlasting Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Today, the day when the death of Laurent singsthe complete program of the official selection of Cannes Classics.
This selection was created twenty years ago. As every time, with the idea of revisiting the history of cinema through the eyes of all those who are dedicated to preserving and restoring the cinematographic heritage, those who distribute and project the films, the curators and artisans of the films, among many others.

Among the events that celebrate the anniversary of a film, studio, director, etc., there is, first of all, Gilda, by Charles Vidor, to celebrate one hundred years of Columbia Pictures. Also, the Palme d’or from 1984, Paris, Texas by Win Wenders, with a 4K restoration supervised by the same director; the last tape of one of the members of the new waveJean-Luc Godard, titulada Scenarios, a hybrid that combines the French director’s hazy wit; a special screening of The Seven Samourai, Akira Kurosawa’s classic; and an episode of the extended documentary titled The century of Costa-Gavrasdirected by Yannick Kergoat and written by Edwy Plenel.
To complete the circle: Jacques Demy, Pink and Black, by Florence Platarets; a restored version of The umbrellas of Cherbourgby Jacques Demy, sixty years after its premiere; The Declic Yearsby Raymond Depardon; Bye bye Brasil, by Carlos Diegues; and Law and Orderby Frederick Wiseman, in a new version restored from the original 16mm negative.

- Slap the Monster on Page Oneby Marco Bellochio, 1972. Restored in 4K by the Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna in collaboration with Surf Film and Kavak Film.
- The Sugarland Expressby Steven Spielberg, 1974. Restored by Universal Pictures.
- Thiaroye campby Ousmane Sembene and Thierno Faty Sow, 1988. Restored by World Cinema Project and the Bologna Cineteca.
- Army of Shadowsby Jean-Pierre Melville, 1969.
- Johnny Got His Gunby Dalton Trumbo, 1971.
- Rosora at 10 O’Clockby Mario Soffici, 1958.
