Louise Wenzer and Philip Ottenreit from Germany are the world champions in 470 sailing for 2022. The German pair led from the first day of the championship and already yesterday (Friday) secured the gold medal, as the gap between them and the second place was 22 points, when in the medal sailing the maximum score is 20.

The certainty of the gold medal left the stage for a five-way battle for the silver and bronze medals. Five teams were in a very small points difference and the fight was decided only at the finish line of the last cruise. An excellent jump by the Spanish team of Olympic medalist Jordi Hernandez and Nora Cabot put them in first place even before the first float. Once they secured the lead, the Spanish depended on the French team of Cammy Lacroix and Jeremy Minho, who led them by seven points in the battle for the silver medal.

The battle between the crews continued until the last buoy when Lacroix and Minho tried to pass two boats and thus secure second place for themselves. Upon crossing the finish line, the Spaniards turned around and began to count the boats between them and their opponents, and after a few seconds of tension, they began to celebrate with their coach the winning of the money.

The bronze medal in the championship went to the French and will remain close to another Israeli, Israel’s national coach Gidi Kliger, who is Cami Lacroix’s partner. In the French boat there was great joy over the bronze medal, as this is the first international competition of the team, which was only recently assembled. Lacroix, winner of two Olympic medals, returned to competing only a few weeks ago, after giving birth to her daughter five months ago.

The Israeli teams in the golden house of the championship failed to qualify for the top ten. Nitai Hasson and Noa Lasri finished the championship in 18th place and Gil Cohen and Noam Maari in 24th place.
