Werder Bremen back at the top of the 2nd division

Werder Bremen has stormed back to the top of the second Bundesliga and has made a three-way battle out of the promotion race for the time being. The 2-1 (2-1) win against Dynamo Dresden on matchday 25 tore a gap between the top trio and their pursuers.

Behind Werder (48 points), Darmstadt 98 and FC St. Pauli (both 47), 1. FC Nürnberg (42 points) is already some way behind. Hamburger SV and Schalke 04 are even one point behind. Schalke fired coach Dimitrios Grammozis this Sunday for fear of a possible missed promotion.

In Bremen, Niclas Füllkrug spoiled Dresden’s new coach Guerino Capretti’s debut with two goals. The goalscorer made the difference in the happy win against the relegation-threatened Saxons with his goals of twelve (16th) and 13 (45th) this season. Dresden remains on the relegation place.

On the other hand, the new coach Daniel Thioune is leading the Fortuna Düsseldorf team further and further out of the relegation zone. The Rhinelanders won 3-0 (2-0) against bottom FC Ingolstadt. Under Thioune, Düsseldorf took ten out of a possible twelve points in four games.
