West Asian Women’s Football Championship draw pits Iraq with Nepal, Palestine and Syria

/ The draw for the 8th West Asian Women’s Football Federation Championship, on Monday, placed Iraq in Group Two, alongside Nepal, Palestine and Syria.

The Iraqi Football Association stated in a statement received by Agency that the city of Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host the tournament from February 19 to 29, with the participation of the national teams of Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine, in addition to the national teams of Guam and Nepal, which are participating in this edition by special invitation, and as guests of the West Asian Federation.

According to the draw, the teams were divided into two groups. The first group included: Saudi Arabia, Guam, Lebanon and Jordan, while the second group included: Iraq, Nepal, Palestine and Syria.

The first round of the tournament will be held in a single-stage league system, with the first and second place teams in each group qualifying for the semi-finals, after which the two winners will move on to the final round to determine the champion of the eighth edition.

The group stage is scheduled to be held at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, while the final rounds will be held at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium.

After the draw ceremony, the West Asian Federation circulated the tournament schedule, which begins on February 19th with two matches, the first at 5 pm Saudi time between Guam and Lebanon, followed at 8 pm by the match between Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

The competitions will continue on February 20, with two matches at the same time, the first between Nepal and Syria, then between Palestine and Iraq. On the following day, the 21st, the Jordanian national team will play against Guam, and the Lebanese and Saudi national teams will face each other.

The tournament will be completed on February 22, when the Iraqi and Nepalese teams will meet on one side, and the Syrian and Palestinian teams on the other. Immediately after that, Lebanon will meet Jordan, and Saudi Arabia will meet Guam. The group stage competitions will conclude on February 24 with two matches as well, the first between Syria and Iraq, and the second between Palestine and Nepal.

The tournament will then enter a break on February 25 and 26, then the semi-final matches will be held on February 27, and finally the final match on February 29.
