(ANSA) – PORDENONE, JULY 18 – The Western Friuli Health Authority announced that on July 16, a confirmed case of West Nile virus infection was diagnosed in an elderly patient hospitalized in the Neurology department since July 12, for fever associated with neurological symptoms. The woman’s general conditions are serious and the prognosis is currently reserved.
“The patient – Asfo specifies – resident in the province of Pordenone, does not report staying in other areas and therefore the case is considered autochthonous. Immediately after the positive result was reported, the investigations into the case by the Prevention Department began promptly”.
Yesterday, the ISS – National Transplant Center ordered the introduction of surveillance and prevention measures against the transmission of West Nile virus through organ, tissue and cell transplants for all residents in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, as indicated by the National Plan for Arbovirosis.
