Westbound I-70 Reopens at C470 After Oversized Load Incident in Colorado Mile 260

by time news

A truck got stuck under a bridge on Interstate 70 at the Highway C470 exit late Friday morning. It happened in the westbound lanes which remained closed until just after 4 p.m.

At the time of the closure, a camera from the Colorado Department of Transportation showed the semi’s front sticking out from under the bridge and crews checking for damage to the truck and to the bridge.

A full closure of the westbound lanes was put into place after the crash just after 11 a.m. A couple of hours after the closure, the Colorado State Patrol posted pictures of just how much damage was caused to the semi’s load. Once the truck was removed, CDOT inspectors assessed the structure and found damage to the outside edge of the bridge but determined that westbound lanes under the bridge could reopen until permanent repairs are made. According to CDOT, there will be a shoulder and a lane closure on the westbound C-470 bridge over I-70 to keep the weight of vehicles off the damaged area until repairs are made. The ramp from eastbound I-70 onto C-470 will remain closed.

Traffic was diverted to C470. Most of the westbound lanes of I-70 reopened just after 4 p.m. Friday except for the closures due to safety concerns. Just before 3 p.m. state troopers tweeted an update that the oversized load had been removed from the road. Repairs to the road from dragging the load off the road was scheduled.

Authorities said it doesn’t appear anyone was hurt when the truck got stuck.
