Western Digital Showcases‍ New SSDs and High-Capacity Memory Cards

Western⁣ Digital unveiled⁤ two new SSDs at a demo held at the FMS. These upcoming drives are‌ expected ‍to⁣ hit the ⁣market in approximately six months. According to WDC manager ‌Eric Spanneut, the faster model achieved a read ‍speed of nearly 15 GBytes/s while consuming just 6.5 watts. Random access performance ​was equally impressive, reaching over 2 ‌million IOPS.

The company also​ showcased​ a mainstream ‌SSD with PCIe 5.0, featuring ⁢a maximum storage capacity of 2 TB, no DRAM support, and four NAND channels. This model⁣ operates with lower​ power consumption, consuming only 5 watts.

Both SSDs are likely to be released under the WD_Black⁢ label, but further details remain ⁤unavailable.

WDC also unveiled ambitious plans for memory cards:

  • A MicroSD card with an unprecedented 4 TBytes of storage capacity.
  • An SD‌ card boasting 8 TBytes⁣ of storage.
  • While these capacities are groundbreaking, their market release date and availability remain ‌unknown.

The company currently offers a 2 TB MicroSD card, produced in collaboration with Kioxia. However, ⁤a WDC-branded 4 TB SD card announced earlier‌ this year has not yet been released.
