Renewed Search Launched in 1998 Fiona Sinnott Disappearance & Murder Case
A new ground search is underway in County Wexford, Ireland, as authorities reinvestigate the 1998 disappearance and murder of Fiona Sinnott, a 19-year-old mother. The search, commencing on an unnamed site of open ground, aims to uncover new evidence in the decades-old case.
Decades-Old Mystery Rekindled
The investigation into Sinnott’s disappearance has been ongoing for 26 years, but renewed efforts signal a potential breakthrough. Authorities have indicated the search will involve excavation, alongside detailed technical and forensic examinations over the coming days. Road closures and local diversions are currently in effect as the operation unfolds.
Sinnott was last seen on the night of February 8, 1998, after socializing with friends at Butler’s Pub in Broadway, Co. Wexford. She left the pub around midnight, and that remains the last confirmed sighting of her.
Key Witnesses Sought
A crucial piece of the puzzle lies with four individuals who were reportedly in the vicinity of Kisha Cross around midnight on the night of Sinnott’s disappearance. According to authorities, a motorcyclist observed a male and female on the road, with two additional men, aged between their late teens and early 20s, nearby. “Gardaí are anxious to trace these individuals,” a senior official stated, “or anyone else who may have been in the area and either did not come forward at the time, or felt unable to provide all relevant information.”
The investigation has already involved extensive work, with over 500 statements taken and thousands of documents and reports compiled. Sinnott was the mother of a young daughter at the time of her disappearance and resided at Ballyhitt, Broadway.
