While the Dax ended in the red last year, the Dax ETF savings plan even brought a plus. This is not the case every year, but in the long run the savings plan has two major advantages.

IMore and more Germans regularly save money in an ETF savings plan. The ExtraETF investor portal counted almost 3.8 million savings plans by the end of April. The bottom line is that around 30,000 savings plans are added every month, even in a nasty investment year like 2022, when share prices were sometimes deep in the red, an average of around 170 euros was paid in every month.

A year that ended in the red for many investors in both stocks and bonds brought a plus for Dax savings plans. This is due to the special course of the index during the year, but it also illustrates a major advantage of successive share savings – price lows are used for purchases. For example, investments in a Dax ETF of 50 euros at the end of each month were assumed as the basis for the Dax savings plan yield triangle of Deutsches Aktieninstitut. The deposits at the beginning of the year at the Dax level of almost 16,000 and 15,500 points brought a minus because the index fell to 13,923 points at the end of the year. However, a level that was already reached in April, so that the April payment into the savings plan was no longer negative.
