What are the procedures for expatriates to bring family members? How much will it cost?

Dubai: Expatriates in Dubai have to complete various steps to bring their family members with them. Each of these has to be charged a fixed fee. The cost of the application will depend on the age of the children as well as the duration of the visa. Here is a brief outline of the procedures for bringing family members to non-residents.

Attestation
Attestation of certain documents must be completed before starting the visa process. Documents like your marriage certificate, birth certificate of your children need to be attested. In addition to having the documents certified by the relevant authorities in their own country, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation must also complete the arrest warrant.

UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation charges AED 160 for attestation if approached directly. If you rely on other agencies or typing centers they will also charge service charges.

Tenancy agreement or tenant registration document is required to be produced at the time of application. And must have a salary outside a certain limit to support the family. If so, then the application can be submitted. These are the documents required for visa application.

1. Copy of passports of family members who wish to be sponsored
2. Your original passport and Emirates ID
3. Attested Certificates.
4. Attested Eligibility Certificates
5. Salary Certificate
6. Ijari registration document for residents of Dubai and tenancy agreement for residents of other emirates.

File opening charge
The first thing to pay when starting the visa process is the file opening charge. AED 269 is to be paid to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs. This charge is not related to the number of persons intended to be sponsored. Once this fee is paid, if the job changes, the file opening charge has to be paid again.

Entry permit
Each of the family members you bring will need to pay AED 500 for an entry permit to enter the UAE.

If family is in UAE
A fee must be paid for the permit even if the family members are resident in the UAE. The process of ‘Change of Status’ has to be completed by paying the prescribed fee.

The permit is valid for 60 days. If you are outside the country, you can enter the UAE within 60 days. Residents in the UAE have 60 days to change their status.

Change of status
If the family members are in UAE, they have to pay AED 675 as change of status fee. If the family members are outside the UAE they can enter the country with an entry permit.

Medical fitness test
A medical test is required for spouses, children above the age of 18, etc., brought to the UAE. Its normal price is 320 dirhams. But if you want the VIP service that will get the result within 24 hours, you have to pay 570 dirhams.

Emirates ID
The next step is to apply for an Emirates ID depending on the duration of the visa. It costs Dh170 for one year, Dh270 for two years and Dh370 for three years. For a 10-year golden visa, Emirates ID costs AED 1,070.

Visa Stamping
The practice of stamping visas on passports was recently abolished. At present, the Emirates ID is also used as a residence permit.
