The governor of La Rioja, Ricardo Quintela, had said two months ago that he would resign from his position if Javier Milei became president. However, despite his promise, last night he wrote on his social networks and his message was far from this scenario.
“I want to congratulate the new president of the Argentines @JMilei elected by the popular vote, to whom we wish success in his administration,” began his statement that he posted after the president-elect’s speech.

After that, he added: “A new stage begins in the Argentine Republic where responsibility lies with the elected president. “We will fulfill the role that the people assigned us by being a responsible opposition and open to dialogue, always defending the interests of Argentines.”
In the same sense, he congratulated Sergio Massa for his “fortitude and altruism” of his vocation “without renouncing the values of Justicialism.” “We remain convinced that your proposal, for which we work, is the correct one, which embraces the protection of the industry and national work, respect for Human Rights, the maintenance of health and public education, free, free and quality; and the defense of federalism,” he said.

Quintela, after the victory in the PASO of La Libertad Avanza and with the majority of the polls indicating growth for October, had announced that if the libertarian won, he would resign from his position.

“If we do not win on October 22, the resources for our province will be restricted, there will be no resources and if this governor does not do well, he will have to resign,” he expressed during a housing delivery event.
