What do you mean by our history; Sobhita to the journalist

by time news

Directed by Mani Ratnam, Ponniyin Selvan continues to run in theatres. The film is based on the book Ponniyan Selvan written by Kalki based on the Chola dynasty.

A remark made by a journalist at a function related to the film and Shobhita Dhulipala’s reply to it is becoming noteworthy. While talking to Jayam Ravi, who played the title character in the film, Shobhita intervened in a remark made by a journalist.

I was wondering how long it has been since we talked about our history. Stories of Mughals and Britishers have been told in the movie. But now our history is becoming a movie’, the journalist said.

After Jayam Ravi’s reply, Sobhita said, I am interfering by talking about history. What do you mean by our history? Indian rule by the British is a part of history. The Cholas and the Pallavas, who existed long before all that, are part of our history. Mughals are also a part of our history. India has often had foreign rule or changes of power. So it is difficult to distinguish between our history and what is not ours. During the rule of the Cholas, Indonesia was also considered a part of us. But today it is a different country. The border is unclear. Shobhita added that all the stories taught by history as immortal should be brought forward and celebrated.

Shobhita plays the role of Vanathi in the film. Ponniyin Selvan depicts the crises and dangers faced by the throne of the Chola Emperor in the 10th century and the battles between the army, enemies and traitors.
