After the Kintinia incident that pitted law enforcement against gold miners, following the suspension of artisanal gold and diamond mining throughout Guinea, an officer was injured on site. In an interview on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, the public prosecutor at the Siguiri First Court addressed the elders of the locality of Kintinia as well as the gold miners.
“We did not say that artisanal gold mining is prohibited, but rather it is suspended. I am addressing the elders of Kintinia, Balato, Fatoya, to tell their children to stop these kinds of things, they said that they will attack the SAG, whoever attacks the SAG, will be arrested without comment. Even today, we will bring the agents, the law prevails. In my capacity as prosecutor of Siguiri, I ask you not to come see me anymore, in case they are arrested. Whoever comes for their release will be immediately arrested. They threw stones at the agents for nothing, to the point of injuring an agent,” said Ibrahima 1 Camara.
Further, he addressed the artisanal gold miners. “You said that you will continue the activities, everyone has stopped except Balato, we are informed that there are crushing machines working in these areas. If we find someone on these sites, the person concerned will be arrested. The decision of the State must be respected by every good citizen. What happened in Lero, we do not want it to happen here in Kintinia. Our intention is not to challenge the gold miners but on condition that you stop artisanal mining,” he suggested.
