The life of the businessman and fleeting candidate for the Council of Santa Marta, Enrique Rafael Vives Caballero, today focuses on serving a house arrest sentence of 7 years and 8 months for the crimes of manslaughter and negligent personal injury.

Vives was responsible for running over seven young people who were walking along a road in Gaira (Santa Marta jurisdiction) in the early hours of September 13, 2021. Of that group, six died. The businessman was traveling in a Toyota Hilux truck, at high speed and in a state of intoxication (level two of alcohol).
The victims of Enrique Vives’ irresponsible act were Rafaela Petit, 30 years old; María Camila Martínez, 24; Camila and her brother Leonir Romero, 18 and 17, respectively; Laura Valentina De Lima, 18, and Juan Diego Álzate Ordóñez, 15.
The benefit of house arrest and reduced sentence was obtained after reaching a pre-agreement with the Attorney General’s Office in the midst of the process that was initiated against him for the death of the young Samarians.
Thus, he achieved that with his collaboration with the justice system, the acquittal of charges and the payment of financial compensation to the relatives of the victims in the amount of $1,715 million and a fine of 36.66 current monthly legal minimum wages, his conviction was reduced by almost half and that he could fulfill it at home.
Meanwhile, the only survivor of this event – which meant a tragedy for the families – was Brian Añez, who was celebrating his 14th birthday the day Vives ran over them on the road.
According to his parents, the family is currently experiencing a difficult economic situation that forced them to send Brian to Venezuela, while they wait for the compensation of $400 million that they requested in the process to materialize, since they assure that it has not arrived.
