Fernando Villavicenciocandidate for the Presidency from Republic by movement buildwas assassinated this Wednesday, August 9, 2023 when he was leaving a political rally, in the north of Quito.
This event caused commotion throughout the Ecuadorand generated a series of doubts about whether the movement build can replace the candidacy of Fernando Villavicencio facing the presidential elections that will be held on August 20, 2023.
Given this, article 112 of the Code of Democracy details that, “if a candidate o candidate by popular election dies or is in a situation of proven physical, mental or legal disability before the respective elections, the political organization or alliance that sponsors that application may replace with another candidate of the same organization or alliance”.
Construye reacts to the murder of Fernando Villavicencio
After the attack on Fernando Villavicencio, the Construye movement released a statement in which it demands answers from the State, from justice, so that the assassination of the candidate “does not go unpunished.”
“We have not yet found a way to react to the horror and pain caused by the assassination of our presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio,” the statement reads.
